Shortchange

Privacy policy

Shortchange collects no personal data. That is the whole policy; the rest is detail.

Last updated 5 October 2026 · applies to Shortchange for iOS and Android, version 1.0.0 onwards.

What is collected

Nothing. There is no account, no sign-in, and no identifier of any kind. The app contains no analytics SDK, no advertising SDK, and no crash-reporting SDK.

What is stored, and where

Two things are saved on your device, and only on your device:

ItemWhy
The most recent exchange-rate table So the app works with no network connection
The last currency pair you selected So it is still selected next time you open the app

Both live in the operating system's own key-value store (SharedPreferences on Android, NSUserDefaults on iOS). Neither is transmitted anywhere. On Android, the app opts out of cloud backup, so they are not copied to Google's servers either. Amounts you type are never written to disk at all — they exist only while the app is open, and deleting the app removes everything.

Network requests

The app makes exactly one kind of request: an unauthenticated HTTPS GET to open.er-api.com, to fetch the current reference rates. It sends no account, no device identifier, and no information about you, and it happens only when the app starts or when you tap Update.

As with any request over the internet, your IP address is necessarily visible to the server that answers it. That request is handled by ExchangeRate-API under their terms; it is not logged, received or retained by us in any form.

What is not done

Your rights

Rights to access, correct, export or erase personal data — under the GDPR, the CCPA or any comparable law — apply to data a company holds about you. We hold none, so there is nothing to request. Everything the app stores is on your device and under your control: uninstalling it, or clearing its storage, deletes all of it immediately.

Changes

If this policy ever changes, the updated version will be posted here with a new date, and a release that changes what the app collects will say so in its release notes.
